Summit Rinjani Trekking – 2D1N (Summit 3,726m)
The 2-Day Summit Rinjani Trek is a perfect adventure for those eager to experience the majestic beauty of Mount Rinjani in the shortest time possible. At 3,726m, Rinjani is one of Indonesia’s highest peaks and a must-do for avid trekkers. This program begins and ends in Sembalun Village, offering spectacular views of the savannas, crater lakes, and the surrounding islands.

- Sembalun Route: The trek starts in the vast sand savanna, providing sweeping views of the eastern entrance to the mountain.
- Crater Rim Views: Witness spectacular sunsets over Segara Anak Lake inside the volcano’s crater.
- Summit Sunrise: The best sunrise of your life awaits at the summit, where you can see Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, and the Segara Anak Lake spread below you.
Note:
- This trek is not for beginners. A good fitness level and the ability to handle strenuous conditions at high altitudes are required.
- Individuals with height phobias or mountain sickness should not attempt this trek.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Sembalun Village (1,100m) → Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m)

Morning:
- 6:00 AM – Wake up at the base camp in Senaru and enjoy a hearty breakfast.
- 7:00 AM – Depart for Sembalun Village (45-60 minutes drive).
- 8:00 AM – Register at the Rinjani Information Center (RIC) at 1,051m.
Trekking:
- 8:30 AM – POS 1 (1,300m): Begin the trek from Sembalun Village. The first section is a relatively easy walk, lasting about two hours and passing through lush fields and forests. Take a short break at POS 1.
- 10:30 AM – POS 2 (1,500m): Continue for 1 hour to POS 2, where you can rest for a few minutes.
- 11:30 AM – POS 3 (1,800m): Another 1-hour walk will bring you to POS 3. Here, you’ll enjoy a packed lunch for about 2 hours as you relax and take in the surrounding views.
- 1:30 PM – Crater Rim (2,639m): After lunch, continue the steep climb to the Plawangan Sembalun Crater Rim, which takes 3 hours. Once at the Crater Rim, set up camp and take in the panoramic views of the Segara Anak Lake within the crater.
Evening:
- 5:30 PM – Dinner at the campsite. Enjoy a hearty meal as you watch the sunset over the crater lake.
- Spend the night at the Sembalun Crater Rim, where you’ll be treated to starry skies and a peaceful atmosphere before the big summit day ahead.
Day 2: Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m) → Summit (3,726m) → Sembalun Village (1,100m)

Early Morning:
- 2:30 AM – Wake up and have a light breakfast (tea, snacks, and energy foods) to fuel up for the summit push.
- 3:00 AM – Start the summit trek: Begin the steep and challenging ascent to the Rinjani Summit (3,726m). This portion of the trek takes about 3 hours and 20 minutes. It’s an arduous climb with scree and loose rocks, but the views are breathtaking. The effort is well worth it once you reach the top.
At the Summit:
- 6:30 AM – Reach the Rinjani Summit in time for the best sunrise of your life. From here, you’ll see sweeping views of Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, and the stunning Segara Anak Lake below. Take your time to enjoy the sunrise, snap photos, and absorb the grandeur of the surroundings.
Descent and Return:
- 7:00 AM – Begin your descent back to the Crater Rim. This will take about 2 hours.
- 9:00 AM – Arrive back at the Crater Rim, enjoy a well-deserved breakfast, and rest.
- 10:00 AM – After breakfast, begin the descent to Sembalun Village. The trek back takes 5 hours, and you will walk through different terrains, including lush forests and savannas.
- Lunch will be provided either at POS 2 or POS 3, where you can rest and refuel before finishing the descent.
Afternoon:
- 3:00 PM – Arrive at Sembalun Village.
- 4:00 PM – Return to Senaru (1-hour drive).
- 5:00 PM – Arrival at Green Rinjani Office for final check-out and transfer to your next destination.
Trekking Difficulty & Requirements:
- This trek is challenging and requires a good level of fitness.
- It’s not suitable for beginners or those with mountain sickness or height phobias.
- Trekkers should be comfortable with the summit’s steep ascents, rocky terrain, and cold temperatures.
Important Information:
Temperature:
- Daytime: 28-35˚C (depending on elevation)
- Nighttime at Campsites: 8-15˚C (campsites at Sembalun Crater Rim)
- Summit: 0-5˚C (cold, especially before sunrise)
Recommended Gear:
- Daytime: Lightweight, breathable clothing (shorts/pants, T-shirt, hat).
- Nighttime: Warm layers (long pants, T-shirt, jacket).
- Summit Gear: Super warm clothes (long pants, T-shirt, sweater, windbreaker jacket, gloves, warm hat, buff).
